My Thoughts on Fleece Processing

I don’t know if it’s my age or just the phase of my life I am in but, recently I’ve been kind of drawing a line between what I like and what I don’t like and coming to terms with the fact that it’s OK.

As it turns out, I like buying fleece and I like spinning fleece – like whole fleeces. But, washing and processing fleece is not my jam.

No, I think a lot of people would agree that knowing how to do such things – experimenting trying it once or twice – is not a bad idea and I have done that. I didn’t just decide that I don’t like it. I tried it a few times and, yeah, I don’t like it. I would go so far as to say processing fleece is a hobby or craft or specialty that’s 100% completely different from any other thing that you would do with fleece such as spinning it or buying it.

I am totally OK with the fact that I’m not gonna process fleece again unless I absolutely have no choice. When I say absolutely have no choice I’m pretty sure I mean we have entered the post-apocalypse and there aren’t any fleece processors. If I have fleece and the only way to spin it and knit with it is to process it myself, then I am cool with it. I have a handshake relationship with the process.

I’m proud of myself for drawing a line and knowing what I like. I’m not a bad spinner just because I don’t like to process fleece. I don’t care what anybody else thinks about that either. These are my hobbies and I’m going to spin, knit and invest the time in just the parts that bring me joy.
