In 2018, I had the chance to interview Maggie Casey for Spin Control Podcast and her advice influenced me to design my first knitting pattern: Aunt Maggie.

During the interview, Maggie said her top piece of advice for hand spinners is to “use your handspun!”
I had been toying with the idea of designing and this advise pushed me to design a handknit cowl with hand spinners in mind. I designed this pattern to encourage new spinners to knit with their handspun and experienced spinners to dig deep into their hands-on stash and use some of the early handspun. I wrote the pattern and did the math so it can be made from a variety of weights, Sport to Bulky.
I am quite proud of this pretty little cowl. The design lends itself to being worked in just about any yarn – handspun or commercial. The stitch pattern is unique and interesting but it’s not difficult.
I plan to cast on a new Aunt Maggie Cowl for the fun of it and hope you will consider trying it out.
